Baltimore’s Wiley Gunter’s

Baltimore, the step-child of East Coast cities, is known for such wonderful things as HBO’s The Wire, The Raven’s criminal records, The Inner Harbor and crabs (pun intended). What it isn’t known for is its food scene, especially in local bars. Wyatt Mackie wants to change that.

Located between a McDonald’s and a group of row homes, Wiley Gunter’s, a now well known establishment, separated itself from the over populated bar food scene by adding fresh ingredients to its menu as well as most importantly, food that doesn’t suck.

It’s got a fairly simple menu of appetizers, salads and sandwiches, and they’re all good (I got to eat everything pictured).

Wednesdays are Burger Night. For $6 you get this (The Californian- 1/2 pound Angus Beef, lettuce, tomato, pepper jack cheese, sliced avocado and roasted red pepper between a kaiser roll) or one of seven other choices like The Chesapeake, with crab dip and cheddar, or the Bar-B-Que, with pulled pork bbq, cheddar cheese and coleslaw. (Make sure to order some drinks while you’re there as well).
